Maybe those frumpy men are harassed and heckled by a wife (like the OP maybe?) who is always chiding and sniping at him: "Look at you...you frumpy man. I try my best not to judge people by their looks. Based on what I see while out in public, I'd then have to judge 80% of the population... the DC metro area is pretty lacking in attractive people.
