Fit and tailoring is one of the biggest problems in women's clothing in the US. For the most part the two stores offer frumpy shapeless clothing.

I don't love the super preppy Muffy look, but I have had some timeless wool work pants and pencil skirts from Talbots that have been dry cleaned dozens of times and still look great. It's good workhorse office wear for me, not for weekends. YMMV.

Meh, I happily wear Talbots stuff. Not all of it, because some of it is really cutesy and ridiculous. But I can usually find something each season.

Not a fan of Chicos at all – way too many big patterns and weird embellishments. I'm a fan of shapeless linen as long as it is plain, so Eileen Fisher is fine by me.

I am not afraid to dress for my age. As I get older, I don't mind spending more for quality, comfort and style.

It’s still frump wear IMO. Those getting all up in their feelings about how they can find amazing things anywhere: I doubt it. I can also acknowledge the ageism and classism that makes these two brands come in for so much scorn here.

And if we are being honest, Ann Taylor, especially LOFT, is not exactly the epitome of style either. You can totally find something or nothing at each of these stores.

Try Zara. Believe or not, they have great styles - I mostly find the better stuff online though.

It's not misogyny to say the clothes are ugly. The clothes don't flatter middle age bodies. They favor boxy, straight line cuts, with enough fabric to 2 tents.

Same. And I’m the 5’11” poster who could probably pull them off. Just not my style at all. Way too flaired .
