Post 03/05/2010 11:00     Subject: Cycle after chemical pregnancy?

I had a chemical pregnancy last month, I took an ept and it came out positive, was so happy, went to the doctor a few days later and her test came out negative, she said it was a chemical pregnancy. I was so disapointed, we hadnt told anyone and it had been like we had the best secret ever. I was looking in the mirror constanly looking a my stomach. My doctor told me we could start trying again this month, she also said that it shows i can get pregnant and thats a good thing. I definately felt the lose and anyone who makes light of it has never gone through, My heart goes out to anyone who has a miscarriage later on, I was so attached after a few days I cant imagine how attached I would be after a few months.
So im back to counting days and praying everynight that soon I will have my baby.

Ok, AllyJ here again
So if it took 5 days for my HCG to go back down, then maybe I ovulated 5 days later and I am taking pregnancy tests at 10 dpo today? I am hoping to be pregnant again as I got the go ahead from my Dr and I didn't chart my ovulation. We were trying but not really trying. I am so mad now since I have no idea if or when I ovulated!! I am 29 so I am relatively young. I still got a BFN at 10 dpo so I am probably not, as most women seem to have BFP at that point from what I can see. Although with my chemical I did not get a BFP until the day I was due for my period, so who knows! I wish my period would start so I can go ahead and actually figure out when I ovulate and what my luteal phase is!!

Ok, now I have a questions which does not seem to be answered through all of this! I had a chemical pregnancy (started spotting 16 dpo) How should I calculate my cycle?
I had a chemical pregnancy. I am not sure how to calculate my cycle now. I was told since the pregnancy ended 5 days after my period was due that I should get another period normally. My HCG was at 45 on 1/31, 37 on 2/2 and 2 on 2/8. I started the miscarriage on 2/3. I am 28 days, so should I count 28 days from 2/3 or 2/8 when my levels were at 0? I am technically due today, no signs of AF and an BFN on the EPT test I just took. What is going on?

I would count the first day of bleeding (full flow) as the first day of your cycle, even if b/w showed you still had residual HCG in your system when you started bleeding. You may just have a slightly longer cycle this time, but you should get back to normal pretty quickly. Having a few extra days in your cycle right after a chemical pregnancy is normal b/c it can take a few days for your HCG level to fall, and once it falls to a non-pregnant level, then your body will start the process of gearing up to ovulate. I've had 2 chemical pregnancies and had basically a normal cycle afterwards.

Same here. I had a chemical pregnancy three weeks ago and I still haven't ovulated.

Sorry, same situation here, talk to your doc. I know it can take 4-8 weeks after a miscarriage to have a period so i guess ovulation can happen at anytime. Hope everything goes good for you.

Since it was considered a chemical pregnancy I started ttc right away and now I am late for my period and hpts are all negative. I don't have anyother children. Anyone in a similar situation please help.

I called my doc. and she said to wait for a week and retest, if pos. then make an app. Immediatley and if neg. then try to wait out my period. The only thing is I didn't go see anyone for the chemical because it was just like my period, except I didn't have any cramps at all, so I am so worried that something may be wrong. The only thing I know right now is that I didn't ovulate regualarly two weeks ago, otherwise I would have had a period by now. Does anyone know if it's normal to experience pg symptoms after 3 weeks after a miscarriage that just dissapear? My heart goes out to all of you and I hope we all get our wish soon.

so sorry for your m/c's, I know what your going through and if I must say so myself, IT SUCKS!! I'm only like a day late and I have been taking test, all negative, bit of a downer but I'd rather have a period than another chemical, two m/c in a row is so scary. I didn't feel myself ovulate after either m/c, but after the 1st my period resumed perfectly and now I'm just waiting and since we decided to ttc immediatly after the chemical I'm worried something may be wrong and i really want to just know something so I can try again. My periods are usually perfect UUGGHHH!!!

PP, you sound so similar to me. I had a missed misscarriage on Nov. 19th, D&C on Nov. 23 (baby passed at 8.5 weeks but I would have been 11.5 weeks). Waited one cycle then TTC and had a chemical pregnancy Feb. 8th. Now I'm on CD14 and feeling weird (slight cramps and spotting...I'm hoping it means I'm ovulating now). But either way I'm waiting until mid-March to test because the chemical pregnancy was way too upsetting and had I waited one and a half more weeks, I would not have ever known and had to go through the pain...

What I wrote above is in keeping with what I've read online and what my OB told me, although I'm not doctor.

"What Chemical Pregnancy Means:

The term chemical pregnancy means that the miscarriage happened at a point that a missed period and biochemical tests, such as an hCG blood test or a home pregnancy test (checking hCG in urine), were the only evidence that you were pregnant. The miscarriage happened before an ultrasound could have shown a gestational sac.

When the pregnancy develops to the point that ultrasound could confirm the existence of the pregnancy, the term becomes clinical pregnancy. Thus, a chemical pregnancy would be a miscarriage before the fifth week of gestation -- or within about week after your missed menstrual period."

It wouldn't be a chemical pregnancy at 6 weeks.

A chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage. In many cases, the positive pregnancy test was achieved before the woman’s period was due but a miscarrige occured before a heartbeat was able to be seen on an ultrasound.

Failed implantation is failed implantation. HCG levels don't rise without implantation.

i totally agree i just had chemical pregnancy so ppl keep tellin me but i was 6 weeks pregnant in my eyes i lost my baby x

If you were six weeks, then it wasn't a chemical pregnancy, it was an early miscarriage. Chemical pregnancies occur when there is conception but failed implantation. Regardless, I am sorry that people have made light of your loss. It is a real loss.

Thanks to everyone who wrote on here! I just lost a chemical pregnancy on the day of my period, The weird thing about it was that I never considered that it would happen like that.. In retrospect that was kinda dumb.. I knew I could possibly miscarry but for it to never even reach implantantation just never occurred to me! I am a mom of 1 and trying for a second.. So now I'm waititng to ovulate again and it's not happened yet.. My cycle is usually like clockwork and now my ovulation is 3 days late?? My period was also heavier and longer than usual and I was starting to feel pregnant. :O( I definitely don't feel like I've went through the same sadness and trauma of a miscarriage but am still sad and feeling kinda off.. I am not going to take ept's anymore!

20:10 - and no, I don't think you need a D&C after a chemical pregnancy. You could get a blood test to make sure your HCG levels are back down, but I think most chemicals resolve themselves.
