One night at dinner with my 85 year old mother who was concerned about her finances my DH said to never worry, we'd always be there. The next day she broke her hip and I quickly discovered that her insurance would not cover the 24/7 care she needed at home at about $1,000 a day. When I told my DH he briefly gulped and then he joked I hope she's a quick healer. I was so happy that in his mind there was no question that we would take care of her. It ended up costing about $20,000 and he never asked what the total was. He did what he would have done for his mom.

And good for you for being a DW who appears to relish being the object of her husband’s sexual desires, as so many other DWs, especially those your age and married 40 years, would be repulsed by it.

There are 2 gifts that come to mind:

1). A DVD player. When we first started dating almost 20 years ago, I was a poor grad student. He was going to come over to my apartment and suggested we watch a movie, but I didn't have a DVD player. He showed up later with a DVD player and a few DVDs that he had purchased for me. He was - and still is - always trying to find ways to make life a little easier and more enjoyable for me.

2). My engagement ring. I absolutely love it (even after all these years) and it was a total surprise.

Early on in our relationship I told him about an original piece of art by Dr. Seuss that my aunt had hanging in her summer house. I always thought that piece was so cool because it was a piece of his lesser-known, more mature art. Years later my (now) DH gifted me a piece of my own Dr. Seuss art that he had purchased at a local art gallery when they'd done a limited print release. It was the most thoughtful gift ever and I still remember being in such disbelief that he had actually paid attention to that little conversation. The piece currently hangs in my office and will be the main piece in our (future) nursery.

A house cleaner. It's amazing!!!!

Early in our relationship (we were mid-20s), I told him that I was so bummed this particular bumper sticker that I had gotten on an interntaional trip and loved (I know - random and really silly) had been destroyed a few weeks prior. He contacted some random company and had a new one made for me and gave it to me one night as a small gift. I just thought that was really nice thing to do and showed that he was listening to me. I still think of that 15 years (10 years of marriage and 3 kids) later.

Other than that, he gives a lot of thoughtful small gifts for no reason other than making my life easier.

His body. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

He quit smoking about a year into our relationship. Just quit and never looked back. I was so proud of him and happy not to have to deal with his smoking anymore. And I can worry less about his health now.

My engagement ring. I still get compliments on it all the time and he picked it out without any input or help from me. I'm still surprised he did such a good job considering he has little to no taste in jewelry or fashion.
