I don't know what school system you are in, but the Post has been doing great journalism on this phenomenon. Both the linked article and one about two months ago about Langley Park.

I'm pro-immigrant and pro-DACA, which is why I refuse to pretend gangs aren't a problem. My kids may not be at risk, but I care about the thousands of immigrant kids in our area who are, due to their neighborhood or having family in Central America.

Which neighborhoods and which schools? It's an issue, but WHERE?

I just can't with the ignorance here.

It's truly mind- boggling. Maybe ignorance is bliss? I'm the pp whose LEO DH was on a gang task force for years. He has spoken all over the area about MS-13. Why would I lie? I am pro-immigrant. I want everyone protected. Often undocumented people are most at risk. My youngest is still in high school in NOVA. I'm not hysterical. I'm not particularly concerned about my white, IB, band nerd. Gang menbers aren't interested in him. However, undocumented children, poor children, children without strong families, etc...are at risk.

Yep. I'd love to see PP tell the parents who are afraid to send their kids to school, the kids who are getting text messages in the middle of the night that their tongue's going to get cut off, the kids who drop out because they're so distressed, the teachers who are terrified to be alone with their students, etc... that they are just fear mongerers who are getting worked up into a real tizzy.

Absolutely disgusting.

It's an issue. But where is it? Name more schools. Fairfax HS. Where else?

Let's focus on the areas where it's the biggest problem instead of blanketly saying "but it's everywhere!"

There is a difference between saying (a) that it exists and is a problem that should be addressed and (b) that it’s EVERYWHERE and no one is safe, run for the hills, etc.

It’s an issue, but it’s not a the-sky-is-falling type of issue.

It’d be easier to take you seriously if you weren’t so hysterical.

Why expel victims? We should help them.

Most of the victims are also illegals.

Read the WAPO article. Lots of this involves the unaccompanied minors. Prince George's had an influx of 5,000. That's hard to absorb.

DACA needs to end permanently.

This has nothing to do with DACA and you damn well know it.

EVERYTHING to do with illegal immigration, of which DACA is a part. I am sick and tired all of it. Our failing schools, over crowding, crime, gangs, all of my tax money going to a school providing services to ESOL and 70% FARMs, and us having to shell out $$$ we don't have for private. Sick of it. So kindly STFU and GFYS.

I agree. And I’m liberal and overall pro-immigrant, but MS-13 is a problem that must be dealt with. And sadly the gang often targets the very undocumented immigrants these ignorant people claim to support- the gang knows this group is vulnerable and afraid to speak up for fear of deportation.

So out of that 1400, how many are in HS? And which HSs?

The schools, nor the district administration, are not going to advertise the number of MS 13 members there are. Bad PR.
In fact, many articles about the killing of individuals, or the arrest of individuals, leaves off the name of the schools that individuals attend.
Why do you think that might be?

In this area? Most.

Name some.

Are you really this naive? ALL the schools in this area have some MS-13 activity. All of them. My DH is federal law enforcement and worked violent crime and gangs for years. Of course, some schools are worse than others but none are exempt.

More anti-immigrant propaganda. All of the fearful nitwits will eat this up.

Wait. This pp stating that there is a range of MS-13 activity in all the schools in the area, based on her dh's law enforcement/gang work experience, is somehow anti-immigrant propaganda? How so? Do you know that this is untrue based on your own personal experience of gang related activity in the area public schools? Please, counter her statement with your own facts.

I call BS on PP. No facts. Just a claim to stir everyone up.

Really? Here's an actual connection, but you'll no doubt call BS on this, too. I have no idea why you wish to put your blinders on but be grateful that you're so far away from any of this that you're able to. My ds had a classmate who was murdered a few months ago by an MS-13 member who was also a student at his FCPS high school.

Which school? Link to story?

Two more men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the MS-13-related killing of a Fairfax County high school student in August, Prince William County police said Thursday.

Tomas Antonio Pino-Mejia, 19, and Ismael Antonio Hernandez-Navarro, 19, both of no fixed address, were arrested in Frederick, Md., and Tennessee respectively in recent days in connection with the killing of Miguel Angel Ruiz Carrillo, 18.

The killing is the latest in a series of brutal slayings in Virginia and Maryland tied to a resurgent MS-13 gang, which is the region's largest and most violent.

Ruiz Carrillo, who had ties to MS-13, met gang members in a wooded area Aug. 3 near his home in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, according to recently unsealed search warrants in Fairfax. He was assaulted, driven from the scene and never heard from again.

Ruiz Carrillo's body was discovered in Nokesville, Va., on Aug. 22, police said. Detectives uncovered information during the investigation that led them to search the area where his remains were discovered.

Mercedes Carrillo, the victim's mother, said at the time that friends of her son's saw a group attack him near a pond close to their apartment in the 4200 block of Buckman Road. She said she did not think he was in MS-13.

Witnesses saw Ruiz Carrillo and gang members walking into a wooded area, where he was assaulted, according to the search warrants. After the assault, the gang members and Ruiz Carrillo were seen getting into a blue SUV being driven by a female associate of MS-13, the court records show.

[A 14-year-old told of a teen’s killing by MS-13. Then he disappeared, too.]

The search warrants do not detail what happened to Ruiz Carrillo after that, but his mother said in an August interview she had not heard from him after he disappeared, and calls to his cellphone went unreturned.

About two weeks after the slaying, Fairfax County police announced they had arrested Jose Vincent-Sosa, 20, and Edwin Dinarte Moreno, 18, both of Alexandria, along with a female juvenile, charging them all with Ruiz Carrillo's abduction and with gang participation.

In September, Prince William police announced they had charged Hector Armando Gamez-Amaya, 28, with murder in Ruiz Carrillo's killing. Gamez-Amaya was arrested in McDonough, Ga.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Gamez-Amaya had entered the United States illegally at an unknown time and was from El Salvador.

An immigration detainer has been placed on him.

A search warrant states one of the gang members, who accompanied Ruiz Carrillo into the woods, was a local MS-13 clique leader who went by the nickname "Buny." He may be Gamez-Amaya.

The announcement of the new arrests comes a day after a federal indictment was filed against two Maryland MS-13 members, who were accused of fatally beating and stabbing a homeless man so they could be promoted in the gang.

Earlier this month, search warrants unsealed in Fairfax also revealed two bodies found in Holmes Run Park in February were two missing Fairfax teens, Edvin Mendez and Sergio Triminio, who were also probably killed by MS-13 members. No one has been charged in those slayings.
