My son also love athletic wear. He wears tank tops to sleep but not to school.

Not a fan of the blue Under Armor shirt, but the white-and-black Nike outfit it cute!

OP here - wow, this thread took off Yes, I think any interest he'd have is from older boys in the neighborhood / at the pool or pro basketball players or something. I'm talking about these tanks, not the 'wife beater' kind mentioned earlier on.

The older teen boys playing outside in my neighborhood in the summer are- that's probably where the llittle guys are seeing it. Kind of sweet actually.

DS hates tank tops. Loves active wear though.

Its hard for me to believe that a boys tank top is notable cooler (as in temp) than a short sleeved shirt. I always thought one of the main reasons to wear them was to prevent a "farmer tan" or show off your arms.

If my boys asked to get/wear a tank shirt, I'd let them. But not for school. DS12 just got his first real basketball jersey and most of the kids in the small league wear t-shirts underneath. The younger kids are generally more likely not to wear a shirt underneath.

It must be exhausting to be in some of your families. Your poor kids can’t even stay cool in the summer for your fear of looking low class.

I don't personally like them so he doesn't have any. He also doesn't wear athletic wear on a regular basis yet (he will be 7 in Oct). I am hoping that day never comes, but since he was 2 I have been telling him athletic wear is only for playing sports lol. hopefully it sunk in

But I'd never waste money on Nike or Under Armour stuff - when my kid has a job he can waste his money on branded junk.

In the meantime you can get perfectly good tank tops at Target.

When my child was this age it's all he would wear for the same reasons.

My boys (6 and 8) will wear them on vacation or around the neighborhood. They wouldn't wear them at school. I don't buy tanks but sometimes the grandparents do.
