Because that new Jetta will lose significant value in the first week you own it. That Toyota will hold its value nicely. Or buy a new Toyota for a little more and have it still be worth 14k in a few years.

Not sure what people here are talking about. My 13 years old Jetta has 250k miles on it and still running strong.
It is by far the most reliable car I have ever owned. My previous Civic started agonizing at 150k miles. Never Honda again.

I've had two Passats and LOVED them, until I didn't. The last straw was when two local dealers couldn't fix my car, and wanted me to pay by the hour for them to troubleshoot. The issue was a 5 minute, less than $20 fix.

I love my old Passat - so peppy and fun to drive. It has low mileage, too. But every repair for the last several years has been $1000 a pop.
