I just turned 40, and am happily married, but there's no way I or my younger friends would be looking at the 50+ crowd. Maybe the women who can't get men closer to their own age, but then they don't seem like such great catches...
I agree. My limit is about seven years older and even that feels a little old. When I was early 30s I didn't even want to date guys who were forty.
There are guys on this board who constantly try to convince women:
A) they need to sleep with men right away
And b) they need to date guys way older because guys around their age and a little
Older aren't interested.
I have zero friends who are willing to date guys fifteen years older or even ten years older.
This is my concern. I am 48, woman, never married no kids, career. No cats. I am being told that I can only find a man 15+ older.
I will move back to my home town in the midwest and date a high school friend, plenty of whom are my age and single.
In the midwest, huge age gaps are very uncommon. Once they have kids I have plenty of men 3 and 5 years younger who I am compatible with. I don't care about a guy's wallet.
Age gap relationships especially for 2nd marriages have a greater chance of divorce. How stupid are these men in their 60s who don't want women their own age?
I don't know that most men would believe this.
I would be most compatible with a retired firefighter or retired military, as long they are done having babies. Must love dogs. They need to be gainfully employed.

For most of them it's a brief sugar daddy thing, nothing more, nothing less. I have a 33 year old friend dating a 50 something guy who in six months has taken on at least three great trips. She knows its not going to be a LTR but she's having some fun.
The guy is an idiot.

As do I, but not for anything long-term. My last boyfriend (of three months) was 22 years my junior. Then he decided it was time to start a family and he reconnected with an old ex for that purpose. I don't get why I have to look at someone 15 years older than me, especially since the ones I see online tend not to have kept themselves up and may well have health problems, while I don't. I almost think I need to move out of the area once my kids are in college. I've also run into the ego thing of guys not wanting me to make more than they do several times. I don't see how dating a retiree would fix that.
A well put together 50 year old man can get a 35 year old easily. I'm sure you are a nice person but you aren't in demand in that demographic. You will have to find an older partner or decide you are ok with casual relationships. That's just life. It ain't fair but it's real

And when WILL we start thinking about racism against white people???!!! Get out of town. This is a thread that's been derailed by someone suggesting it's basically hopeless for a 40 something woman to date anyone who is not a senior citizen. When 50 something women overwhelming have the opinion that 50 something men are old, gross, wrinkly disgusting POS who don't deserve the time of day, we can have this conversation. Actually, not only that, but that this is what one is entitled to. We're not there, so this is apples and oranges.

Anonymous wrote:Very early 50s divorced mom of two teens. I keep reading all these stories about not giving up, etc., or you become self-defeating, but I really don't think I am going to meet anyone. For casual? Sure. Someone wanting me to be his mistress? Yes, I can find that, and have been asked that, but I won't do it. Younger guys curious about having a relationship for a bit with an older woman until they decide it is time to start a family? Sure. But somebody age appropriate who is actually looking for a girlfriend or other committed relationship? Nope.
I've tried all the dating sites, and there just doesn't seem to be anyone on there looking for anything real. All my friends are either married or in committed relationships and don't know anyone. One friend was going to introduce me to someone who was married to her best friend who passed away, but she was giving the guy time to grieve. While she was being respectful, he took up with his dog walker!
Tons of friends, male and female, say it is 100% going to happen for me, that I'm such a catch, blah, blah, blah. Well, where all all these "catchers"? I sure don't see them. Should I just give up? I'm tired of wanting something that may never happen. My ex had a girlfriend before the divorce was even final, but we've been divorced over two years and there is nothing on my horizon. I've read that stat that most people get remarried within three years of the divorce. I can't even find a serious date! I'm allergic to cats, so please don't suggest I become a cat lady, but I also don't want to hold out hope for something that won't happen if that is actually the truth.

Really? Women that want to stay at home obviously. The 50s are a man's highest earning years. Where can I sign up?
+1

Perfect example of women with too many demands. She wants the sliver of men who retired from a certain profession, and they have to like dogs, AND they have to have a new career after retirement that keeps them gainfully employed.
How many 50-year old men meet all that criteria? 0.01%? To put it in perspective, just looking at CURRENT law enforcement officer of both genders and all ages, they represent 0.2% of the US population.
