Lol @ 1123. I’m the PP that asked for this heady explanation, which couldn’t be more wrong as it applies to MY family.

On the contrary, I have two happy students there, one in hs and one in ms (and another joining soon) and I am just recalling all of the many many conversations I have had over the years with parents of 4th graders once they realize am a BASIS parent. It’s tiresome to watch parent reinvent the wheel over and over..

Somehow the school seems very scary to people, but I think that many parents underestimate what their children are capable of learning and underestimate how engaged and happy most BASIS students are. Boredom is not fun and my DCs have had some amazing teachers at BASIS. And the smaller class sizes are under appreciated by many parents considering BASIS.

Sure! Everyone is Soooooo worried about leaving the cozy confines of their elementary school that they will maybe apply to Latin for 5th, but are OK if they don’t get in. BASIS is Tooo Haaard and Nooo Fun for their 5th grader to handle.

They don’t get into Latin for 5th and stay put and pat themselves on the back for how happy their child is in the top grade at their elementary.

Later, taking a serious look at their IB MS, they freak out and realize that they have to get out of DCPS and lottery for BASIS and Latin and maybe DCI. They get really bad numbers at all 3 but BASIS is the best number of the three and they have heard that the list moves (but they didn’t realize it only moves in 5th).

Now they start thinking about which realtor is best for upper NW or VA or MD and finishing all the house repairs they have put off. . .
