The theory involves trying to control which sperm your body is more receptive to. Silly you.

We had sex saturday & sunday. My ovulation test today gave me a smiley face. Should we not have sex today since sat/sun were in the 2-4 days before ovulation and that's the old wives tale?
Did anyone have a girl with an ovulation test? If so, when did you have sex?
Thanks. I'm sure its silly and we get what we get and dont get upset!

So, if you want to increase your chances of a girl...have sex 4 days before you ovulate. I knew my third was a girl because i was charting to get pregnant and bummed that my husband was going out of town on business trip over ovulation. He left 4 days before. As soon as I got pregnant - I knew it was a girl. Worked for my SIL too. Defintely not fool proof but can't tilt the odds.
Also, a slightly higher number of babies conceived via ICSI during IVF are female because again - slower girl sperm are easier to catch![]()

This is a good book for learning how to conceive in general. There's also the theory that perceived sperm competition can actually increase your overall sperm count.
