Apparently, the muted response shows that there is no defense to this incident - why didn't Lopez just lower the megaphone when the Farrakhan speaker starting spewing his venom, and why didn't White condemn the remarks? - and that in the face of blatant "Jew-hatred," there is deafening silence from (some) DC politicians and, based on the input here, DC residents as well. (In fairness, Jeff did express outrage, but most of DCUM, shhhhhh......)
How different from the response to the "questionable" actions and behavior of White, to whom much of DCUM raced to defend. That's because with White, up until yesterday when he appears to agree with the Farrakhan supporter by refusing to condemn him, one could bend into a pretzel and give the guy the benefit of the doubt. The vast majority of DC is comprised of liberals, and particularly DC officials, who portend to object to bigotry. Why then is there such silence when BLATANTLY anti-Semitic speech (termites? really?) is put forth? Is antisemitism "an OK" form of bigotry?
Lopez....OUT! White....RESIGN! And the DC Council, along width severing all ties to Farrakhan, should issue apologies to the Jewish people and ensure them that such bigotry will not be tolerated in our city.
Ain’t nobody rushing to defend that fool who grabbed the bullhorn because his conduct and remarks were reprehensible. Nobody condones that. The silence in and of itself is a rebuke and DCUM posters have for all intents and purposes said, “He’s all yours...we’re not speaking out in his defense”, so you got free reign to tear him up to your hearts content.
Now if that’s not sufficient and if what you really want is another 40+ page drawn out debate then it’s simple - just follow the example of some of the posters from the other thread and try to turn this into an indictment on the people of Ward 8 specifically or try to make this a condemnation of all black Washingtonians in general. If you looking for some heated discussion go ‘head and break out the sweeping generalizations on entire communities because of one uninvited jackass’s antics and the punk ass politician who let him speak.
Except it's more - MUCH MORE - than one uninvited jackass and the punk ass politician who let him speak. The fact that you are minimizing the degree to which anti-Semitism is overlooked here in DC is part and parcel of the problem.
It is ALSO Trayon, who should have jumped at the opportunity to condemn the "jackass," especially in light of his questionable comments and behavior regarding Jews last week, and yet....he has refused to condemn him. But the real problem is that the DC Council appears to be willing to look past his anti-Semitism and in doing so signaling that anti-Semitism, if not actually encouraged, certainly is nothing that warrants any actions when it occurs at the leadership level. Combine that with the fact that DC grant money supports programs hosted or run by blatant anti-Semites, and there's a message being sent that bigotry against Jews is no big deal.
Let’s hope the counter-message being sent doesn’t turn into resentment towards black Washingtonians.
What counter-message? That antisemtism by DC public officials will not be tolerated by the mayor or the council? It sounds as if you're saying that the DC Council should soft-peddle antisemitism if it occurs among black leaders because taking a strong stand against bigots could engender resentment to all blacks.
And even THAT shows a problem: let's not make a big deal about antisemites in official DC positions, who happen to be black, because it might not be good for black Washingtonians. Would you then say that if antisemtitism were advanced by a white DC official, we could come down harder?
I’m saying let’s hope the response stays focused on the public officials and doesn’t get deflected onto the entire black community.
Problem?
Fair enough. But it does seem like the issue goes a little deeper into the far-left black community leaders, like Tamika Mallory, who are stubbornly unable to disavow antisemitism and the NOI's antisemitism. It's not just public officials. For whatever reasons, anti-semitic language has been allowed to persist in certain black radical circles, and leaks over into more mainstream black leaders associating with them.

Elisa Silverman is calling for the firing of Joshua Lopez, which I believe sends the message to all Washungtonians, black and white, that bigotry against ANY group is unacceptable. In this case, the bigotry was against Jews, and that is no more acceptable than bigoty against Muslims, blacks, gays, and others subject to prejudice.
I just wish she would call for the resignation of White, as well, who has revealed himself to be sympathetic to hateful antisemites.

What made you believe it ever would?
There could be five Jewish people left on the planet and they would still be scapegoated by loons on both sides of the political spectrum.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Nothing is going to come of this unfortunately, it will blow over. Sadly, NOI and other anti-Jewish organizations are really normal here. I mean, have you not ever listened to 1450 WOL AM radio? They say much much worse on there. They have meetings and conferences in NE DC all the time-at a child care center that rents their space out to black nationalist organizations while not in use for daycare. It’s pretty appalling. Signed, not Jewish, atheist, but believe we should all be tolerant of each other.
OP here, and no....haven't listened to that radio station. (I don't. think I'll start, either.) What makes the whole thing worse with the NOI and other black nationalist groups is that they of all people should be aware of the harm that bigotry against minority groups cause. And yet here they are, objecting to the bigotry against blacks while perpetuating it against Jews. Disgusting.
I was searching for childcare years ago, and the CHILD center on Riggs road is near, but after researching them and finding out their connections to NOI, Positive Kimetic Visions, and the Nawaupian movement (which I never had knowledge about before), it was really troubling. I just don’t know how they would treat non-African American children there. Honestly, I wouldn’t have put my child in there care for other reasons, but I was amazed at what I found out about them.
https://m.facebook.com/Positive-Kemetic-Visions-299545233443840/
I just checked your link and. I agree.....I would not put a non-AA child in that center. I also couldn't help noticing that one of Positive Kemetic Vision's events was headlined by Abdul Mohammed - the very antisemite who called Jews "termites" on Thursday.
Wow, I’m the PP who posted the link, I didn’t even realize the connection!
Yup. (I'm the OP.) Can you imagine if a Jewish group proudly hailed that a major racist was headlining one of their events? And although I know we can't force private groups, such as this PKV, from warmly embracing anti-Semites, and, unfortunately, poisoning young minds, the very fact the DC Council has an openly blatant anti-Semite among its ranks - and seems to be OK with him remaining - does enable this private groups to advance their anti-Jew rhetoric too.
Still the OP, and I am emphasizing my own line above. This is why it is critical for the DC Council to take a firm stand and fire Lopez and pressure White to resign for their failure to condemn blatant anti-Semitism, and in doing so, reveal their own. Otherwise, we have tacit acceptance of anti-Semitism among DC public officials - and bigoted organizations like PKV and NOI will take it as a little "wink" to continue with their anti-white and anti-Jew bigotry.
Yep, and even ramp it up a bit to see how far they can go.
