+1. I hope all of the Mexico haters on this forum are avoiding Florida too-after all they’ve had an epidemic of gun violence recently.

And Chicago's out, as well as DC.

There are various parts of Mexico I don't consider safe enough to be right now. I just got back from Mexico City and it was, as always, phenomenal.

Going to Puerto Vallarta. Feel perfectly safe. Not planning on joining or interacting with the Sinaloa Cartel, just hitting up the beach.

I just planned a trip to Oaxaca. There are lots of areas I wouldn't visit, though.

Yep. Because of all the crime, our family doesn’t feel safe setting one foot on any of its resorts, no matter how lovely they may be. Not worth the risk. Some tourist zones that were safe decades ago are now in the crosshairs. The country has a serious problem and we are choosing to take our money elsewhere.

That doesn't sound relaxing to me and I have traveled reasonably extensively, including many less developed countries. When the police are a pervasive problem and you have to constantly be vigilant against scams (which is different than people constantly trying to sell you stuff/beg), that's just not how I want to spend my vacation, particularly know that I am slightly older and have a family.

I love Mexico but even the safe areas are no longer safe. Tragic

Yes, I do avoid it.

I think it's mostly some escapees from the Politics forum who constantly post about their DH being in law enforcement and having put the entire country as a "no go zone." I still go every year (as do many of my friends), and it's lovely. Just be smart. I think a lot of people who run into trouble do so because they drink way too much and do stupid things. People run into trouble when they do that in the US too.

They are on track for having 15,000 murders there this year. That’s crazy. Plus, I can’t get past the Kiki Camarena and Jaime Zapata murders in which the Mexican Govt did little to help.

Nope. Not going. My inlaws and SIL's family are heading there over Thanksgiving this year. They tried to sway us with "but the guards around the resort all have semi-automatic weapons"... Yeah no thanks.
