I haven’t read them. But a post about religious school is about religion and parenting, while this one is not about religion unless atheism is now a religion.

It’s about kids discussing religion. Unless you’re trying to be deliberately obtuse?

Thanks so much. I’m not a “Jesus is risen” or “blessings” type but I certainly appreciate your permission to post on those threads.

Keep in mind that many so-called believers have a very broad or unconventional notion of god. I believe in the power of love and of mystery In The universe and at times I call that god. I say this because I think non believers can sometimes belittle those of us who are open to this mystery or to the idea of a greater being. We certainly don’t all think of god as a vengeful man in the sky.

This question will keep coming up, as their brains mature. I just say that this is a question that people have devoted their lives to try and figure out. Very intelligent and wise people have come down on both sides of this, and others are in limbo and unsure. (and then I say, as for me, most of the time I believe in God, and sometimes I don't...) And anyone who is really thinking about this issue will grapple with it. It's ok to not be sure, or to question, and decide, and then revisit your decision.

I should say that I lean more toward there being no God.

That said, I tell my son that I don't know because I really don't know. Just as I find it ridiculous that people teach their children that one religion is the right one or that there is definitely a God, I think it's better (for me) to stay neutral.

I explain why I have my doubts and ultimately end it by saying that no human being has proof that their beliefs are correct. We just respect everyone and resist respectfully if they try to push their beliefs on us.

(Do I sound really diplomatic? I'm not always able to be that way - these are just my goals. In reality, we do say things at home about people who are overly religious and a family member who claims everything that happens is because Gog wanted it to happen that way. I don't ever want my child to think God is punishing him if something bad happens to him.)
