This story has so many facets. LGBTQ, white women adopting black children, political activism, homeschooling, child abuse, possible outcomes of calling CPS/CPS actions, murder/suicide.

SIX black children. Why adopt so many when you don't have a personality that handles the stress well? Beating and starving the kids!

Some white folks adopt Black kids like accessories. This is a great thread on the phenomenon, and the ways in which the system makes it easy for white folks to grab Black kids, but hard for Black families to foster either formally or informally: https://twitter.com/sjw_movies/status/979403423304044544

You can be an amazing parent outside the walls of the home, and a complete nightmare behind closed doors.

What bewilders me about this story is that there are articles quoting friends of the family who still swear they were amazing parents.

I can't believe those kids were not removed after the one mom plead guilty to child abuse.

It would not surprise me if these moms had mental health issues and were on antipsychotics.

I think this one creates dissonance for this board. This was a left leaning family, lesbians, mixed race, adoptive parents. Doesn't fit the narrative of who many people want to see as child abusers.

I think I knew this, but I figured there had to at least one person who is outraged enough to start a thread. Besides, this is such a severe case. I would hope justice for the 6 kids would outweigh lesbian rights, etc. Also, the hypocrisy of the women with their public support for BLM when clearly they were hypocrites and anything but supporters.

Huh? This is a story about abusive parents. It is not a “political” story.

I think most rational people understand that abusers can and do come in all shapes, genders, colors and political beliefs.

As things slowly get worse, weirder, scarier, you aren't living in the normal world where you can easily recognize that behavior isn't normal. For my dad and other family members, they knew my mom was acting crazy, but they couldn't admit how bad it had gotten.

Would your dad have ignored the authorities beating on his door in order to protect your abusive mother? Would he have gone to court and lied about abuse in order to cover up your mom's abuse?
Would he have presented a picture perfect happy family to the world in matchy matchy tee shirts knowing full well that you were being neglected and beaten at home? Would he have attended political rallies and demonstrations while keeping silent about your abuse at home?

Your dad was probably in survival mode as well as denial and he very likely did not have access to friends in "the system" like this woman appeared to have access to.

I'm sorry that you went through all of that.

Jennifer was the one driving the van.

I wonder if Sarah was also abusive and in one the suicide murder plans or if she was just an enabler of her wife's abuse?

I think they were both as guilty as sin. Even if Sarah was "afraid" why the hell didn't she answer the door when CPS came to their home. And what exactly did she think was going to happen on that 10/11 hour road trip that they took?

No sympathy for a grown azzed adult who had plenty of access to the outside world and had literally been in court over abuse charges. She had plenty of opportunities to help those kids. I think it's clear that she didn't help them because she was actively abusing them right along with Jennifer.

Your aren’t very familiar with the profile of an abused spouse.

Oh, I'm familiar with it. All I can say is that if a 17 year Turpin daughter who had never experienced a day of freedom in her life managed to summon up the courage to crawl out a window and alert the authorities then a grown azzed 30 something, political activist who literally had the authorities beating at her door and dragging her into court could somehow find the way to protect that innocent children.

Instead, she posed for happy family fun photos in matchy matchy tee shirts......no sympathy. At all. None.

They pulled over at a pullout and stopped. Then accelerated for more than 70 ft away from the highway before going over the edge of the cliff. This was intentional.

Sadly they both viewed their children as their "things".
