Any chance that one or both of them are in the early stages of dementia, which can happen as early as 50s?

Giving them the benefit of the doubt here - any chance that they legit don’t remember correctly?

I’ve worked with two different people who were pretty obviously in the very early stages of this and it was like dealing with someone in the twilight zone.

If you invite them to come over, they probably will. It would set a precedent that could be beneficial to you. Might be worth extending an olive branch now.

OP Update! I just had to come get this off my chest. So ILs call, ask what our plans are for the weekend. My husband just told them, I work this weekend, and next weekend too. To which MIL replies: Well, since you are just SO BUSY, I guess I will see you in another three months.

I was so proud of DH because he’s like, don’t know what to tell you. And of course they didn’t suggest coming down here to see the kids and ME since DH will be working. Of course not!

They refuse to even talk to me now when before I was the only one they talked to. Maybe they realize they went too far this time? Embarassed? But then really, they couldn’t go a WEEK without a guilt trip! Completely failing to see that their own behavior is the reason they haven’t seen us in months! I’m just laughing over here! I don’t even know what to say. Every day I’m more an more amazed!

I hope so. I wanted to feel bad that they were all alone this weekend, but really, they made their bed. I was just glad DH stood up for me/us.
