We went when my DD was a preschooler, and she had a great time. BIL worked in the Old Executive Office Bldg back then if I remember correctly and that's how we got the tickets. It was all about my kid having a fun chance to do the egg roll, not about my personal opinions about who is in the office. If you feel that strongly about Trump, give the tickets to someone who will appreciate the opportunity to have their kid attend.

It was not a “fair” system to distribute them only to people who had the means to wait in line for hours (and often ended up scalping them). The lottery system (at least the way it was run under Obama) was much more democratic. Most tickets were through the random online lottery, others set aside for military families, local public schools etc.

Just go. You can tell us what the big cheeto is like.

This president is mean to everyone all the time. Basically every time he communicates it is mean or aggressive or condescending.

Many Presidents have had questionable ethics, none of either party have put such a pallor of cruelty over the white house. Although I think Clinton came close and I would not have voted for him after the scandals came out about him.

As someone in the past who has been given an allotment of tickets (I work on the hill), just tell your friend you don’t want them. Tickets are finite and not even all staff in the White House get them. Your friend can easily fill your spot.

This is OP. This is kind of how I feel. And almost more than that I don't feel like Trump should be able to ruin traditions like this. The easter egg roll happened before, will happen now and will happen when he's impeached.

I don't want to feel compromised but I also feel like not going to something like this is the kind of dig-your-heels-in move that is causing none of us to be able to talk to each other anymore.

I was at the egg roll when the President came out last year. You can’t get close and while a bunch of people ran over for photos or autographs it’s not required and actually easier to stay away with little kids. If you want to make a point to your friends about your politics, fine release your tickets back to the group so they can fill your spots. Don’t waffle though and then be brooding the whole time you’re there. You are seriously overthinking this.

You won't see the Trumps. We got tickets when my kid was 7 months old. DH didn't want to go, but we went. It was hot and crowded and I had a blast. DH enjoyed himself too. Was our kid too young? Yes, of course. But we have the pictures now and that made it worthwhile. I've been trying to get tickets since (7 years) and been unable to. It really is a once in a lifetime thing unless you have some sort of connection or your spouse works for the Secret Service or something. It's unlikely you'll get tickets again. Go regardless of who's in the White House. It's a cool thing.
