I stumbled in this forum just recently, I have a middle schooler and a 4th grader. I have no real idea of recollection of their test scores. I never tried getting them in anything and they are both in AAP. They are good students and work hard. I don't push them, I let them be kids, play travel sports and they squeeze their school work in

FWIW - I got the AAP packet a couple of weeks ago and still can't relax. There is enough there, I think, to find DC eligible, but it could go either way (i.e., it's not a 16 GBRS - lol). I've spent way too much time reading these forums, and we have almost a month to go before finding out. I'd say, "I don't care either way-- I just want to know," but I also know that is a lie. When we get the letter, if it says that DC is ineligible, I'm probably going to be looking back wistfully at those weeks of waiting for the letter. I need to follow the advice of the poster who said to live my life. Seriously - I need to get a life.

I can't relax until April. I know there is nothing I can do but I'm so frustrated that I have no idea what's in DC's AAP packet. For college admission or TJ admission, I won't have this much suspense because I would know what I have in the application package

NP, with a kid at TJ and a kid applying. In FCPS, you have to get off DCUM and find a way to AAP and everything that comes after this from dominating your life. After AAP admissions, there is ES math placement. And taking the IIAT and SOL for 7th grade Algebra placement. And Tj admissions, which is a full school year (October to April) process. And then college admissions. You can easily spend your kids whole childhood focused on the next step, and not enjoy this one.
I know AAP seems like the center of the universe. But so does math placement. And TJ admissions. And college admissions. Once I get my 8th grader through the TJ process, I will need to help my TJ sophomore, then junior, with college. Once he has figured college out, kid 2 will be ready to start. It’s hard to slow down and just enjoy them before they leave for college.
It starts with AAP admissions, but then there is always a next step. Try to unplug. Try to live your life. Try to enjoy these years with your kids. It’s a cliche to say the days are long but the years are short— but it’s true. Try to get some perspective. Lots of GE kids do great.
