Just eat hot dogs off the street in Iceland. I mean, sit down meals are pricey, but I didn’t think anything was prohibitive as far as activities or hotels. Packages to get there are always cheap so it kind of evens out.

Really? When were you there? I've been there a number of times over the years and it has never been particularly expensive.

NP here but I go to Israel about once a year and it’s not expensive. Sure, you can find $$$ restaurants, but that’s true in any country. Prices in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are on par with the major cities in the US.

Maybe this poster hasn't been to many "expensive" countries. Question is just "what's the most expensive country YOU'VE visited." For me, it was France. But the only other countries I've been to in Europe are Spain and Portugal.

Also Iceland. Literally could not find a sit-down meal of any kind in Reykjavik for under $30, and that was a plate of fish and chips with no drink. We had luckily heard about the insane prices ahead of time, so brought boxes of Nature Valley bars to tide us over instead of buying food every time we were hungry. Switzerland was a close second.

Our most expensive trips were safaris in various African countries. Doesn’t mean the country itself is expensive. Just safaris.

The UK will trick you when the pound is strong because the prices will feel lower, but they are really not.

Switzerland, $10 for a hot dog, in 1987, from a street vendor
