I'm the family genealogist. According to verified family records (census, death certificates, etc.) my mother's side of the family was living into their 80s from the 1880s to present. My GGF died at 97 in 1970. My GM had breast cancer at 52, had curative mastectomy and lived to be 90.
My dad's side didn't fare as well, although alcoholism directly attributed some notable deaths (GF died at 45 from "stomach cancer" but this was likely a euphemism for liver failure or cirrhosis). My own dad just died at 84 and was also a lifelong alcoholic. He defied all the odds.
I'm a teetotaler. Biggest health problems are looming; I got an osteopenia diagnosis at 35 and both parents had/have osteopenia, breaks, hip fracture.
