The WISC has sub scores. Processing speed and working memory don’t mean much. You want to have excellent numbers in perceptual and verbal.

As a psychologist I can tell you a 130 WISC score should trump a 132 CogAT but who knows how they compare the scores.


PP here. I hope so. Any ideas why my DD could get a 130 WISC but a 123 CogAT? and 118 NNAT? 2 bad days???? 1 lucky day??? Her GBRS in K and 1st were 14 both times.


We have similar scores - 120 CogAT and 133 WISC with a dyslexia dx. We shall see!!


Don’t include this in your packet. It’s not high enough unless add is at play. How old is this WISC? You can retake every 12 months.

Parent of older kids who are in AAP.

Parent refer. Do not include WISC - keep it for appeal since u may need to appeal. We used Dr. Dahlgren for the WISC.

Parent refer even if low scores. I know kids with 120 cogat who got in!

PP. Because I know my child pretty well. I know that he comes home and researches subjects well ahead of his grade level just for the fun on learning. Chemistry is regular dinner conversation. I know that he loves learning but isn't excited about school. I know that he struggles to hold conversation with friends because he is talking over their heads. I know that he would love to share his ideas and interests with other kids who have the same thoughts and interests.


NP here: both my kids are in aap. One has over a 150 fsiq and his cogat was a 140. He fits in with friends both in and out of AAp and doesn't talk over their heads. They're kids, not robots.


That's great for you and YOUR kids, but OP's son's situation is not uncommon at all.

Either one of the score needs to be > 132. This is from FCPS AAP site. Your child should be in pool.

If your child did good in NNAt (> 132) he/she is in-pool irrespective of Cogat.

If you havent received it by now, chances are the school will send them home in your childs take home folder. Thats what our school did.
