nope. I no longer engage with my parents about politics or their behavior or their cognitive dissonance. Example, they hate as$ grabbing womanizer Bill Clinton. The two of them ended up married because they had an affair at work! LOL. And they love a$s grabber Trump. Makes no senses. That's only one of a million.

They are old, they could die any day, I don't want my final memories of them being arguing. They are simply incapable of seeing their own hypocrisy. At this point you have to let it go. Old dogs, new tricks and all that.

op: I do think it's unhealthy that I have such a strong desire to "bring down" my dad when it's been decades since he had any power over me. He did, however, limit the help my mom gave me when we had a crisis in my family. I kept the FT nanny even though I took 4 months off from my FT job when ds was in the hospital. I wanted my mom to provide emotional support for my 6 and 10 yo dds and take care of them after the nanny left at 6 pm if my dh was helping me in the hospital that night. My 3 yo ds was raging and pulling out his lines. I finally acknowledged in 2016 that I need to address my anger with a professional, and I've been going to therapy since then. I would like advice from those who manage to forgive their parents and show them respect, even though, obviously, no one's parents were perfect, and often the parents get more difficult as they age.
