Some people do like it. Our family has been on about 6 or 7 cruises and we always request being seated with others.

We only had one real "miss." We got seated with a mom and her cute daughter and an older guy. We originally thought he was with the mom and kid. The guy was a complete perv and I really did not want to sit with him (and have my kids sit with him) again..... but we all really liked the other family. We decided it was not worth it to "stick it out" because of them and we requested a move (and told the maitre d why). Next night at dinner-- the family we liked was seated at a table next to us (away from the original table). After a glass or two of wine we were all like "we loved you.... couldn't deal with the perv" and asked the maitre d to seat us together for the rest of the cruise. We got to meet new people and they became friends!

I have made other friends on cruises, so have other family members and I even know a couple that met on a cruise (when they were each cruising with their families). Personally--- it's the only vacations I really recall making new friends on!

We went on our first Disney cruise last year and had a great experience with the dinners. We are a family of 4 and were seated with another family of 4. The 4 kids (all similar ages) had the middle of the table while the 2 sets of parents anchored each end of the table. Yes, the seats are assigned. That way, the adults don't really have to interact if they don't want to. For us, though, it was great. We really enjoyed the other family and the kids became very fast friends. I didn't think out kids would spend much time in the kid's club, but they wanted to after meeting their new friends at dinner. They had play dates in the kid's club.

Overall the dinners were something that I had low expectations about, but the food was decent, the service was great, and the atmosphere at the restaurants exceeded expectations.

And the food didn't under-exceeded mine. I think it's like the food at a good hotel wedding. On the bright side, if you don't like it you can order something else. In fact you can order two entrees or two appetizers or even off the menu and they'll bring it to you. But it's still ... average.

Their upcharge restaurant Palo, grownups only, is much much better and worth it for one meal.

I've been on maybe 6 Disney Cruises so far. The food is fine, but it does seem to get worse every year, particularly in the main dining area. I think most of it is just the difficultly of serving 1000s of guests all at the same time.

I've only been on the Magic and Dream so far. Going on the Dream again this year and Fantasy next year. I found the food and service on the Magic far better than the Dream. Maybe the amount of people really is making a difference in the quality since the Magic is smaller.

No it's much better than airplane food or quick service in the parks. It's obviously not as good as a really nice restaurant in DC though. I guess on a scale of 1-10, the meals we had ranged from 6-8.

^ I did have a good meal at Palo (mushroom risotto and chocolate souffle for dessert).

You can call before the cruise and request your own table. We never have had to sit with another family.

This, some was great, some ok, some not. They will let you switch out something if you don't like it. Much better than plane food. It really varied though for me from just ok to good, none great. A few things were bad.
