Same story here, but add in some resentment and bitterness because I told him the investment was a bad one and asked him not to do it. I haven't left, but it's been rocky and we're not out of the woods yet.

It depends. If he lost his job, I wouldn't care. I have always been the primary breadwinner. Dh works part-time for self fulfillment. If he emptied out our bank accounts due to addiction, infidelity, or bad money management, I leave him.

It depends why. I watched my parents struggle when my dad was unemployed for awhile so it made me very cautious about living a lifestyle that requires the bulk of both paychecks to support it. So if DH lost his job or had to go out of disability we would be okay. I’m willing to downsize house/lifestyle if needed. If I found out our joint bank account was drained and children’s college fund raided because he was gambling, buying drugs, setting up a mistress heck no. I would be processing lies, betrayal, whatever issues drove him to do it on top of not knowing if he would pull the financial rug from under me again ...that would be too much.

That is why I work, I make enough to support our family, we would take the 400k home equity, buy a nice yet modest home and thank god for giving us food, shelter and health.

I genuinely love my husband, so I wouldn't ever leave him for not making enough money. Our marriage isn't a transaction.
