This is well-stated, thank you.

How is it well stated? It doesn't matter who you vote for, it's a rigged system. Corporate overlords control everything.

Deficit will surely come up when they refuse to Renew the CHIP program

Well screw those kids! They should get a better job!

The ACA has legal presence as a qualifier so there's a long list of people in categories that are non citizens who can get CHIP including the Obama minors. https://www.nilc.org/issues/health-care/lawfullypresent/

Many states have already run out of federal CHIP funds and are awaiting Congress...

Why would gov't shit down if Rs have all 3 branches?

Because a.) they are still dysfunctional despite controlling all 3 branches and b.) half of the Republicans think the proposal stinks

I have a hard time believing there will be a shutdown with R’s in control of Congress and the President. Has that ever happened before? Certainly not in recent memory.

It could. They can't even manage to get enough support from their fellow Republicans. Some of them like Rand Paul and Susan Collins think, each for their own reasons, that the GOP tax proposal stinks. No doubt John McCain and others will also weigh in with their dislike and that puts them in threat of not having enough votes to pass it and they will either have to dial their proposal way back or face a shutdown.

Before any serious scoring is finished.

It will pass and 2018 will be a bloodbath for the Republican party, which is a shame. This is not the party I grew up in.

In all the blather about the Republican tax plans I have yet to hear any Democrats or Republicans proposing itemized deductions flat capped at 50k for SALT plus mortgage interest.

That would be a compromise. Meanwhile in case you all were wondering where CHIP $ will come from there is a potential raid on the medicare as paid for by retirees who pay premiums under the cliffs. So medicare will increase for some.

Da**it. Car just broke down, just replaced two appliances in the kitchen. This is a bad time for a shutdown for us. At least we've already finished the Christmas shopping.

But don't you get back pay for the days you were off? My friend told me she's looking forward to a vacation.

Congress needs to decide if federal employees get back pay. They always have in the past - but who knows. Federal contractors do not get back pay as far as I understand.

Nope, we can only PTO or if you have none, you get no pay.

That's not what I heard. You always get paid (just with a delay). But ultimately, you lose no money - and get a paid vacation. As I said, my friend is hoping for it.

My mistake. No....she's not a contractor. She's a regular govt. employee.
PP was talking about contractors. Is your friend a contractor?

I don't understand Republicans. They're pro-life and all about protecting unborn babies, but once the kids are born, they just **** all over them.

Hint: they don't give a sh#t about other peoples' kids at all. Abortion, religion, etc are all just useful wedge issues to get working classes to side with policies that help inherited wealth at the expense of the middle class.

Despite all our education, the vast knowledge attainable via the internet, and miraculous technological breakthroughs, we STILL have folks getting hung up on tribalist wedge issues and supporting politicians who want to destroy their economic security.
