We will both be 49 when youngest starts college. We’ll have a few years of tuition there but then would love to take what we have been spending on schooling and travel more. God willing health will be on our side and we’ll have time on that end to spend on us.

No, but I would think most people on DCUM have children who go away to college, which is what Empty Nesters are: parents who no longer engage in day-to-day parenting, year round. Sure, your kids come home, maybe even live at home in the summers or after college. But having lived AT college for a while, the are older, changed, and you are not playing the same role.


It won't be empty nest but I'm even looking forward to when the first two are done with HS and we only have a 16 year old left. It's looking like our youngest is going to be a pretty confident, independent kid.

Of course, life happens when you're making other plans...

48/53 , 6 more years before they youngest leaves the house.

56 and 58. We will continue to work and travel a lot more hopefully.

53 and 54 when the youngest of 4 leaves. I'll prob get a hobby job and DH will be in peak earning years and lives what he does.

I was 43 and my H was 48 when our youngest launched. I am pretty sure my sister and her H will be in their 80s IF their kids all ever leave the homestead.

54 and 56 he will likely be in some boards and work fur awhike linger but scale back we plan to travel a lot - I will travel with him on his business travel.

We'll be about 58/59. Our plan is to continue working because we will need the money.
