I had sex with two long term girlfriends who had been virgins. It went well enough, but I didn't have a lot of experience myself or high expectations. I was a virgin with the first and, with the second, had only ever been with the first girl. This all happened when all concerned were in the 18-20 year age range.

A couple of years later, a girl I'd casually hooked up with a few times wanted to have sex. (We were both 21, I think). She was a virgin. I was nothing special to her, and she was nothing special to me. I don't think she so much wanted to have sex as she wanted to get her virginity over with. I passed on the offer. Making out was fine, but all of the baggage that seemed to go along with sex at the time didn't seem like that much fun.

Based on this thread, it seems like "first times" are a lot more meaningful to men than women. Most of my friends don't have their first lover's face (or in many cases name) burned into their memory. Generally the experience fell somewhere between terrible and meh, and was in late high school or early college, often in the context of a fairly casual relationship. If men want to be remembered, they should focus on developing an actual, meaningful relationship or being truly outstanding in bed. Just being someone's first doesn't do anything.

This is done in many countries where women are expected to be virgins on wedding night. They even have doctors who do hymen restoration surgery (not kidding).

It's different. I bet most women remember their first time much more than for men. It's a bigger deal. You know that woman will remember you forever, even 30 or 40 years later. She's going to remember her #1, but not necessarily #5 or #8.

My DH didn't care that I was a virgin, but he certainly kind of liked the idea that there was no one else before him. He was shocked I was a virgin, though.
