Unsubtle message: the enemy is White men, and the future will be rid of them.

The left should try not to get white men to organize and advocate for themselves if they want their agenda to succeed.

Huh? The new Governor and the reelected AG are both white males.

The new Speaker, if the Dems take the House of Delegates, is a white male.

The message is that the future is a COALITION which includes people of different races, and females as well as males.

Since the HoD was so overwhelmingly white and male before, balancing means a lot of new females and POCs.

BTW, this "endangered whites" is probably not a good strategy. In the past Asian Americans in NoVa leaned GOP I think - you guys are pissing them off more and more.

Yes, until about 10 years ago, Asians tended to vote more GOP than democratic nationwide. Personally, I think Asian interests are more aligned with GOP polices on economics and most social issues outside of immigration., but thanks to Democratic branding, the GOP now has the default effect of being the white people party even though they haven't really done anything specifically for white people. The GOP in fact has tried to go colorblind for years which hasn't really worked as it is a defensive policy.

I'm all for the end of the GOP as a party, not so the Dems can win, but because I don't know what the party really stands for. I don't think its base cares so much about what the donors care for, and if it doesn't move on what its base wants, they will become disengaged and won't vote for them anymore.

I want Jerry Ford Republicans and Jimmy Carter Democrats back.

Generally pro-capitalism, but moderate on everything.

White Man here.

We have done so well governing the world, right?

A multi-cultural society only thrives when all are treated equally and have a voice in governance. That was the point of the Constitution.

I’m sensing the Dems will work on getting an R to switch parties in the state senate. Or offer a moderate R a position in the administration.

The counting of the provisional ballots are dependent on the district and local board of elections. For example, in the close Newport News race (the 94th) they local news article said that they probably won't turn to provisionals until next Monday, after they get the absentee ballots counted and double-check the precinct numbers.

Lawsuits for the recounts probably won't begin until late next week.

That shows grassroots democratic passion, there are SO many new people running for office. Not something that will be super evident on the national stage but it is a fantastic sign for the next few years. 538 had an article awhile back that talked about the VERY strong correlation between new candidates of a party running and taking over seats in congress. Democrats have like more than 200 new candidates raising money, Republicans less than 30.

Trump is causing Republicans to start retiring but he isn't sparking a passionate group of new politicians running for office...at least not for Republican office.

Yup, just heard an interview with the mayor of Richmond. He said there were 41 first-time candidates on the House of Delegates ballots.

And, that the current status of the House is 50-50 with one district in Newport News that is outstanding. That's the one mentioned either here or on another thread where the candidates are only separated by 12 votes.

It can't be 50-50 with one outstanding. NYTimes has it at 48-47 Dems.

The current results are 50/50.

This is PP. My point was, if there's one outstanding, it's 50-49.

On that elections.virginia.gov site, is there a summary or did you go through and count wins by R and wins by D to get to 50-50?

All you need to look at are the 5 in question. They're showing a winner on the Virginia site but if there are recounts that could change.

Got it. Tanner in the 40th was 100ish up last night and is now 100 down. Hope that flips back in the recount.

NYTs is assuming all 5 close races will be recounts. VA local news sources are already reporting 50-50, based on the initial certifications. Once the initial certification is verified, the local election board then turns to provisional ballots. Once those are counted, final result is announced. In the close races, the loser can demand a recount.

VA house control probably won't be known until early December. All five are going to recounts.

This is a good review of the status of the Newport News vote from their local paper. It also reviews the other 4 races and how the losers can demand a recount (will definitely happen in all 5 close races).

They haven't even started looking at provisional ballots! My guess is that those will be heavily Democratic - usually due to people who don't have ID or have housing insecurity (i.e., poor folks).
