This is not in question. It is 100% true and fact. My school has turned into a third world country in the last 10 years since Obama put DACA into place. Thousands are here. Also here are the children of illegal immigrants who do not speak english and come from illiterate parents. They are themselves birthright citizens, but they otherwise would not be here were the illegal immigration problem addressed.
Also reducing the quality of public education in this area is the FFX housing subsidies. What you end up having is concentrated pockets of the populace who end up placing undue burden on specific schools. The parents who know this fight redistricting and affordable housing development in their neighborhoods tooth and nail.
And illegals are also crowding into single family homes in “nice” neighborhoods. That has caused my neighborhood school to rapidly decline. If a landlord accepts housing vouchers, that happens. A lot of SF homes in this area are rentals due to heavy military presence.
Thank you! I brought up the same thing - my parents' nice SFH has lost half its value due to the influx of illegals and the rapid decline of the schools (the majority are FARMS and ESOL, and it was a nice middle-class school when I went there.) Illegal immigrants are bunching up two and three families to a house. It's terrible.
Did you happen to see the response upthread- from someone who was in this country illegally? First, she blamed me for "letting" my parents stay in the house, but worse....she bragged that her kids are FARM and ESOL, while at the same time, bragging how she herself "steered clear" of neighborhoods with schools that had a high percentage of FARM and ESOL kids! The gall. She doesn't want her kids to be in school district with poor and non-English speakers, populated with people like her kids, because it brings down the quality of education. And she was here illegally! (Twice, she said.)
I'm struggling to think of any neighborhoods in Fairfax where SFHs have lost half their value. If I look, for example, at some of the highest ESOL/FARMS school districts in Annandale, it looks like some houses are still about 20% below peak pre-recession prices, but have been rebounding over the past 4-5 years.

Teachers are told to “differentiate” instruction. It’s possible, but it is causing many talented, hard-working teachers to leave the profession.
It is next to impossible to meet the needs of all the learners in a given classroom - especially when some of them do not even speak the language.
Not only do many of these students not speak English, many are illiterate in their native tongue.
There is no way I could be an effective teacher today.
~ Former FCPS teacher
This. Emphasis mine. Also, these students have parents who are also illiterate in their native language.
Or, they are legally emancipated; that is, there IS no adult guardian.
And, we have 17 or 18 year old freshman or sophomores
Also, if you'd like to know who receives free and reduced price lunches, ask your elementary student. Your student notices and observes.
And, even older teen high school students who can't speak or understand any English. None. How do they graduate?
Ask any FCPS high school student. The "Hispanic kids" all hang out and do not affiliate in any way with non Hispanic students.
Forget assimilation. We're back to segregation in some ways.

So you hate poor people who live in trailers?
I thought it was a lovely story of how one community is supporting those in need. Those are some great teachers.

You have NO IDEA if your parents' neighbors are "illegal". You only know that they are low-income and maybe some speak Spanish. Stop making sh1t up in your head.

THIS. x100
I would just love for the liberals defending high ESOL #'s (read: illegal immigrants) to have to send their snowflakes to majority Spanish speaking schools, which simply don't have the resources to serve all the kids, much less the average English speaking ones. We'd never hear the end of their outrage.
+1
There is only so much money in the school system budget. It’s impossible to deal with the high WSOL numbers and also adequately provide resources for everything else.
Agree that this is exactly why Trump was elected. I did not vote for him but if he does keep his promises on curbing illegal immigration, then I would absolutely consider voting for him the next time.
The effects of illegal immigration are evident to me on a daily basis. Day in and day out. It’s more important to me than abortion (I’m pro-choice) and more important to me than many other issues that politicians focus on. Illegal immigration has affected me and my family in a way that some of those other issues have not.
Yes. I get dumped on when I mention this, but my elderly parents have lost half their home's equity due to the declining schools overrun with illegal immigrants. There are real, actual costs to American taxpayers when an area is over-populated with non-English speakers, and not just those who have kids who have to go to the public school.
And I agree with you on abortion. I'm pro-choice, since it doesn't impact me (or anyone else) when a woman terminates a pregnancy. But having schools where 45% of the kids are ESOL (some areas of northern Virginia, like Manasses, have this problem), it brings down the pace and complexity of classes. Schoolchildren in these areas are at a big disadvantage when compared to schools with lower ESOL percentages.
I don't really understand how you think this problem can be solved without investing more $$ in schools - which, yes, means more taxes. If your plan is to literally round up and deport every illegal immigrant, chances are you'll still be leaving behind a lot of kids (the lovely term 'anchor babies' that previous PP used - though most of those these days are Chinese and Russian, if you actually do your research) who still merit an education. Alternately, you'll leave (according to your 45% theory) nearly-half-empty schools, which will still cost money to maintain, heat/cool, etc., but with a lowered local tax base to support that. A closed school isn't any better for property values than one with *gasp* a lot of ESOL kids. The legal status or native language of the children are not the problem - a refusal of the local populace to pay enough taxes to maintain the necessary staffing ratios and provide the desired level of instruction is the problem.
Re: your parents' property values...unless they bought in the early oughts, I highly doubt their "loss" is real $$ and not just on paper. Can you name other, actual facets of your life in the DMV that have been negatively impacted by immigration?
Nobody in this thread ever said they have been impacted by immigration! Repeat after me: ILLEGAL immigrants.
This +100
I'm a child of immigrants and 100% support LEGAL immigration. Hate when people do not distinguish between Legal and Illegal immigration.
I don't care what country they come from - China/Russia/El Salvador/Guatemala. If they are here illegally, they are a problem.
I also hate when people do not distinguish between legal and illegal immigration. You couldn't tell the difference even if it sat on your face. I'm legal, but have been illegal twice and probably shouldn't be legal. Illegal becomes legal when it shouldn't and vice versa. Americans are clueless about their own immigration laws. You don't follow your own law, you follow your feelings.
And what happened to Republicans and personal responsibility? Who lets their parents sit and watch their house value go down thanks to illegals moving into neighborhood?
We are complaining about high farm/esol schools taking all the resources, but my personal responsibility had me steer clear of those schools. Plenty of "good" schools out there. Move IB and problem solved.
My older kid is farm and my younger kid will probably put into esol.
