That's what show writers fail on sometimes. When the story has a twist, they need to consider who knows and who doesn't know. And, if everyone knows but the viewer, they're simply being manipulative.
For example, if they told the story in order, it would be one thing. OR, if they told the story as character(s) learn, that's fine too. But if WE are Toby, I'll be mad
