I would not personally be attracted. But I'm sure there are some ladies that like the fuller figured males

My husband went from being overly skinny when I met him to now 24 years later being 60+ lbs overweight and I still want to have sex with him everyday. He's more good looking now then 24 years ago.

I'm not arguing against your preference either. I get it. I would choose the same thing. I'm arguing against the one of you that said fat men have never been idealized throughout human history. She was incredibly wrong. It's still the same reason you see fat guys with hot young wives. Because they're powerful, rich etc (generally, some have great personalities/humor).

Nah. Sure rich, fat guys can get hot, young wives, but I bet those wives wish they weren't fat. They're getting those women in spite of being fat, not because they're fat.

That is true. For modern history. But that is not true when scarcity was the real issue which it has been for most of human history. Back then/ fat was good. It was also much more common to see in medieval royalty among women too.

Fat was not and has never been good for men. For women- yes.

Here's an art history lesson since you truly seem to be clueless about the subject: http://blog.bridgemanimages.com/a-hunky-history-the-male-nude-in-art/

Weight looks different on men and women. Never in the history of time have fat men been idealized

Except for most of human history? I have trouble believing some of you on here ever revived a higher education. Fat men were often wealthy men for most of history because they were the only ones who could afford to get fat. Seriously, go look at a museum and see what noble medieval armor looked like (hint it was built for a lot of NFL lineman in mind). This fat bast@%! literally created a new religion so his new hot plaything could become his trophy wife.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha I don't think you know what the word "idealized" means. Hint: it doesn't mean universally made fun of, as Henry VII.

I repeat: fat men have never in the history of time been idealized. Never.

"Idealized-Regard or represent as perfect or better than in reality." According to the OED I think i realize exactly what it means. Let's ask a simple question. If you had to go back in time to another life would you rather be woman with all the rights that entailed, a minority who was so well treated in that economic system, a skinny peasant thin and muscular from working his lords crops all the time or would it be a cushier life to be this fat f@#%. I'm not arguing that fat is attractive today. I'm not arguing it's healthy to be fat. I'm 6'3" and 195 so don't think is a personal front. I do however take an issue with such a blatantly stupid and false statement. For most of human history fat men were idealized, they set fashion trends ruled lands and countries. Fat used to be a symbol of power. Of plenty, abundance etc. All things we still love today, now it's just supplanted by money.

Henry the VIII wasn't widely made fun of. He was one of the most powerful monarchs of his time. Just like this fat dude

Dude. He was powerful because he was born as a king. He was widely ridiculed at the time for his obesity. For you to say his body was idealized either shows, again, a total lack of knowledge of what the word "idealized" means, or a desperate attempt to skirt the issue. This is not about did "have all fat men had horrible lives" this is about "what male figure was idealized" and the reality of that is that it has never, ever been fat men. This is contrast to fat female figures which have been idealized fairly consistently throughout history.

You asked why the double standard exists- that's part of it. It is what it is. No amount of sting pictures of Jabba the Hut and claiming because he had a slave his figure is "idealized" is going to convince anyone

I haven't read the other thread, I admit. But one thing I will say is that in addition to it being easier for men to lose weight, there's another difference that needs to be addressed: pregnancy. Now I am NOT saying that pregnancy is an excuse to eat without abandon, or that people with 3 year olds can rightly be talking about "the baby weight". But the reality is that with each pregnancy, a woman's body is changing, drastically, and entirely beyond her control. We're talking about gaining at least 25-35 lbs (by recommendation) within a pretty short period of time, and the reality is that some people's bodies seem to gain more no matter what they do. Yes it's important to prioritize getting back into pre-pregnancy shape, but the reality is that that takes time. Add in multiple pregnancies, nursing, and menopause and you can see that there are a lot of factors at play here...the reality is that it can be much more of an uphill battle. A man slacking and gaining 50 lbs is a different story than a woman getting pregnant and gaining weight (/losing physical fitness), and having to try and come back from them is equally different. Again, I'm not saying that ANY of that is an excuse for becoming a huge whale that just doesn't try (and again, I haven't read that thread), but that's something to think about when you're looking at the idea of double standards.
