The thing is is that Americans are definitely 'bigger is better' people. If you marry a short guy you will have short kids and those short kids won't be successful athletes tearing it up in high school. Kind of shallow and silly but when I dated a short guy in college my women friends literally sneered at him and told me that they would 'never date such a man'. I continued dating him for a while but the attitude from others made my breaking up with him easier? I felt a little silly dating him so any annoying things he did were a bit more important and less acceptable based on societal pressure is my take on it. So, Mr Short has to be a very special admiral guy for the relationship to continue while Mr Tall dark and handsome (who I married) gets a pass for more things.
