I too do not find short men attractive. I realize it is shallow but attraction is a hard thing to change. I think similar to other posters, if I ended up being smitten by a short man, then I would go for it, but I have never had that happen.

I think the comparison would be tall women. Most women want a man who is taller than them, and most men want a woman who is shorter than they are.

Height does bring presence, as it stands out. Tall people also wear weight better so they tend to look better even if a little overweight.Tall also seems to equate to strong, and other positive characteristics that people are looking for in mates.

As the average height of men has risen, it means short men seem even shorter, and taller women, not as tall.

The thing is is that Americans are definitely 'bigger is better' people. If you marry a short guy you will have short kids and those short kids won't be successful athletes tearing it up in high school. Kind of shallow and silly but when I dated a short guy in college my women friends literally sneered at him and told me that they would 'never date such a man'. I continued dating him for a while but the attitude from others made my breaking up with him easier? I felt a little silly dating him so any annoying things he did were a bit more important and less acceptable based on societal pressure is my take on it. So, Mr Short has to be a very special admiral guy for the relationship to continue while Mr Tall dark and handsome (who I married) gets a pass for more things.

Well this thread is going a LOT differently than the "short women" thread.

I am attracted to short men sometimes but all things held equal tall men are more attractive. I'm 5'8" and when I was dating often dated men around my height. But then I married someone over 6'.

I would find it difficult to be attracted to a man who was shorter than me. I'm only 5'5". As long as a guy is taller than that, I'm fine with him.

Yikes. My son is really short and this thread depresses me.

I am generally not attracted to short men, but I married a man who is 5'6". We were friends first and his personality won me over. He is one of the nicest and funniest guys I know. He also happens to be successful, which is a bonus.

This is so true. I teach middle school and the short boys are the whiny criers. The tall boys are always the alpha and commamd respect. They just have a presence.

The middle School boys who develop early are often really mean jerks.

For a teacher to say something like this is truly awful and does not speak well of your character.

Honestly, my forst thought was eww...are you one of those predator teachers sleeping with her students we keep seeing in the news? What kind of teacher talks about her students like this?

Me too

I'm 5'3", and in principle have no problem dating short guys. Many of the ones I've dated, though, have been bitter and negative, and I just can't have that kind of anger on the other end of my sofa for the rest of whatever.
