How long does it take you to respond to emails, and do you have a smartphone so you can read emails when you are out of the house?

It depends upon the time of day as to how fast I respond to emails. I work in the mornings so I can respond to emails then super-quickly. But in the afternoons, when I am picking kids up from school, running around to extracurriculars, I am out of pocket (email-wise) so the most immediate way to get in touch with me during those hours is call my cell phone. No, I do not have a smart phone. I have an old "dumb" phone. Then, in the evenings, once dinner is over, kids are down, etc. I am back on computer or iPad and can respond quickly again, until bedtime. I like having my brain "turned off" once I leave work and then I have all afternoon to be present for my kids and home life, etc.

I have one extremely busy friend. I would respond at a conventionally rapid pace to her texts; she would read mine and respond with an email a week later. So I started taking a week or so to respond to her texts. Guess what? We are both happier. She was telling me that she wasn't going to respond on a priority basis, so now I don't either.

Actually no. You have to either physically swipe the notification, or go into your messages for the read receipt to activate.

Avoid doing these things and avoid looking like an ass.

I think they are busy and/or ADD.

When I have Do Not Disturb on, I don't see it. Then it just gets buried under 10 other text messages.
