OP, everyone that goes anywhere near this girl knows she's a smoker. Don't embarrass yourself by tattling.

OP there's an opportunity here to do some deep work on yourself. Why do you feel the need to tell someone her adult daughter is smoking? Why do you feel this is your business (no, really it's not). What is missing from your life that makes you think this is any way appropriate? Have you had control freak issues your whole life?

Also, IMO, this is just the logical off-shoot of those people who call the police because someone ran into the post office for a quick errand and are a mere 15 ft away from their kids in a parked, locked car.

I'm sure Mom isn't keen on the smoking (and yes, that she knows too). Talking about it to her will lead to two things: a) Mom thinks you're a busybody, and b) Mom is reminded of something that likely bothers her and doesn't need to hear about it from others.

Drop it. Let it go. I see teenagers smoking but I don't talk about it because it's not my decision and they're not my kids. Nor is it illegal. Not is it, no matter how annoying it is or dreadful the smell is, that bad in the general scheme of things. It's not drugs. It's not binge drinking till blind drunk and being at risk for being raped, it's not stealing, it's not driving like a maniac, it's not a whole lot of stuff.

I HATE smoke and can smell it a mile away, but someone who is 22 is an adult OP and you know that. You do sound like a busy-body. Are you jealous of the woman you work with? It sounds like it.

And, yes, she knows her DD smokes. There is no way to hide the smell of smoke on one's hair and clothes. The more people spray on something to try to hide the smell, the more obvious it is.

If my kid were smoking, I'd tell them it was a disgusting and unhealthy habit. If someone else came to tattle that my adult child was smoking, I'd tell them they needed to get a life.
