It is so interesting to see what schools people like best. I'm glad, frankly, that there are so many people who think their school is the top! I think my kids' school is the best too.

Lists like these are for the most part dumb b/c unless you have actually been in the schools/experienced the schooling you really have no idea how good a particular school is. Test scores are a crude barometer but the rubber meets the road on a day-to-day basis. PP above put Brent as a second-tier school - but on what basis? My kid is at Brent and it has been absolutely fantastic. I have a VERY hard time believing that any other school in the city is BETTER - equal, sure.

This is just your order of preference and is subjective as you note that your decision takes into consideration "demographics and other things." It does not mean that your "Tier I" is better than your "Tier II." So when it comes to compiling a list of "top schools" this doesn't cut it.

I DO have issues with this or any list, but I refuse to take advice from someone who doesn't know the difference between "assess" and "asses' - as in 'some of you are trying to assess the public school options in DC yet your are making asses of yourselves"

That's the whole point -- you can't come up with an universal list that applies to all -- because everyone has their own individual factors. If OP said, here are the schools with the best test scores or here are the schools with the lowest FARMs, then you can make an objective list. But her list is top schools best on some subjective criteria.
