Motherhood improved substantially for me when I ditched breastfeeding. Nobody cares, your baby will be great either way...and nobody (not even the crunchiest nut) is going to say a depressed breastfeeding mom is better than a happy formula mom. If this is at all part of it, please please cut yourself some slack and be done.

Then call your OB's office, tell them your score, and ask for help. Zoloft started making a difference for me within days.

Also, go buy a can of formula, and have your DH give the first feed of the night so you can sleep. You don't *have* to breastfeed.

Hi OP. I want you to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Like the PP, I'd also suggest you get evaluated for PPD. However, I also want to say this: at 3 months, your baby is still in the "angry potato" stage - your entire life, day and night, is devoted to baby's needs, you're exhausted, and you don't get much in return. Some people quickly bond and naturally love motherhood, but many of us take a while to get to know their new family member and adjust, and that's totally okay.

I also had fertility treatments to get pregnant, and then hated pregnancy and hated the newborn stage. I mourned the loss of my old carefree life - no PPD, just tough to get used to this new reality. I started to feel a little more like myself again at 5 months - baby became more fun and interactive, started sleeping slightly longer stretches, and I started doing some things for myself again (exercise, mani/pedis, wine with dinner). But at the 3 month mark I was a miserable zombie and often wondered if I'd made a horrible mistake and ruined our lives.

P.S. If you hate breastfeeding, there is NOTHING wrong with switching to formula. Yes, BF has lots of benefits, but your baby will be just fine and will thrive without it.

This sounds serious. Please seek help before you hurt your baby or yourself or both. I'm not judging you, PPD is real and it sounds like you may have it. Don't you want to feel better? You can.
