I think a lot of us fall into the trap of thinking "I would've done this for $2 a day when I was that age," but $2 back then isn't the same now.
If you're 38 years old, you were born in 1985. $1 then is equivalent in purchasing power to $2.84 now, because it has lost 65% of its purchasing power due to inflation. So $2 then would be $5.68 now.
