Wait - were neither of you using birth control? I spoke with my OB and made sure I timed it such that I got my period the week BEFORE the wedding so that I didn't have it during the wedding or on our honeymoon.

That's really f*cked up and mortifying.

And funny enough, something similar happened a a VERY conservative Muslim Pakistani wedding I attended over a decade ago. The hardcore Baptists and conservative Muslims are two sides of the same coin. They just express their misogyny and authoritarian paternalism in different ways.

The air conditioner was broken in our hotel! It was June and very humid. We were exhausted already from the day, and spent our wedding night lying as far apart from each other as humanly possible. Dripping with sweat. We just laid there and watched TV. Lol! 15 years later still happily married.
