Exactly. Just like white families don't apply to Banneker even though it's the best performing school and almost as central in the city as one can get. Eyeroll.
Kids at wilson, walls and latin outperform banneker. And those schools are closer to home for many.
That is why whites do not send kids to banneker.
Anonymous wrote:Banneker is hard to get to if you live a stretch away from Banneker. It also lacks diversity, so if you have diversity as a value (and many don't!) Banneker would not be a draw.

The definition of "diversity" you seem to be working with is exactly the opposite. Banneker is not diverse. No school that is 99% populated by one ethnic group is diverse. Seeking out a school that is populated 99% by one ethnic group is pretty strong evidence that "diversity" is not at the top of your list of asks. Does that make you a "bad" person? Depends on who you ask and what type of uniformity you're seeking, I suppose.
Anonymous wrote:Banneker could be diverse but white folks don't want to go there. Integration is up to white folks now. We black folks tried with housing and schools and everything else - it failed. It's your turn to figure it out. We're done.

Do the work to get it up and running, provide data to support a need, dedicate yourself or others to finding the funding, get it approved by DC Council or Charter School Board - didn't think so! You just want to be an a**![]()
OP are you referencing a specific school with your post? Are you saying there is a dcps charter school for black boys only already or someone is trying to start such a school? If so name the school, post links? Seriously just wanting to know more about this topic.
There is a residential charter school for girls now -- and one for boys has been approved and will open soon.

The one OP was referencing is a DCPS school.
So there was a DC school approved in 2017 that's for blacks only? There are schools open in the city today that limit enrollment to blacks only? Outrageous! What are the names of these schools? This is not OK and I want to write the Post about this!
So y'all don't want too many black kids at your school but they can't have their own school either.
Got it.
Not at all. I just wanted to be clear that EVERYONE is okay with segregating schools by race (and sex).
Personally, I'm skeptical. However since it's no big deal to anyone else, I'd rather enroll my daughter with only Asian girls and some white girls to take up the other empty seats (since there are so few Asians in DC).
I trust no-one has any problems with this.

I'd be happy to enroll mine in the highest performing automatically unconstitutional school in the city. :Eyeroll:
sssshhhh yea don't tell the constitution about those Mandarin and French imersion charter schools...
You seriously don't see the difference between a French immersion school and a segregated by skin color school?
