Some companies make many people VPs for example. Others reserve this title only for top senior leadership. Within our company, the pay band within title varies by dept. For example, directors in Marketing makes less than managers in Legal.
This- DH changed his title on Linkedin to what his counterparts are more likely called in his industry. He works in one of the bigger/ more global companies in his industry and they just have SUCH esoteric random titles, and generally "dumbed down" if that makes sense- which is what he had on his profile. He started to get so many random calls when people would actually click through to his experience past his title.
As my small nonprofit so many people have "director" as a title who oversee 1 person!
