In an average year, roughly 15% of the undergrads at HYPC pay nothing whatsoever (purely need-based).

Same for us. We had $100k over the 4 years and ended up paying a little over $4k per semester after financial aid.

This. Elite colleges' financial aid packages actually use "scholarship" repeatedly.

Even non elite privates do this with high sticker prices ... but then give every Tom Dick & Harry an annual $15,000 "scholarship".

Both PP's here need help with reading comprehension. The post about the free tuition and room/board says nothing about 'scholarship'. It was referred to as a program. You assumed scholarship because of the thread heading. Regardless, Harvard, Yale and some/all Ivies practice need-blind admissions and will award aid to students to cover all room/board/tuition costs when the students come from households with a total annual household income of less than $60,000. Sheesh, you guys, this isn't a war and you don't have to beat up everybody just to prove you are the biggest jerk.
