Love this! My 22-year-old DD recently posted that “do you want to meet my dog?” is her favorite pickup line.
My brother used to come over and borrow my dog and go sit out on the quad at AU. He was a 22 y.o. tech nerd but the dog was a total chick magnet.
Many years later, as an older single mom, men used to occassionally stop me while I was out running errands with my dog and ask me about my dog and close by telling me about their local dog park and encouraging me to bring my dog. Much less skeeY than asking for a phone #.

I'd like to increase my chance encounters of, or otherwise meet more, women around my age for dating and possibly a serious relationship. I'm semi-retired and doing more things I like to do for fun (which they say is a good way to meet people). I like the outdoors and hiking, and on the trails around here I meet nice younger men and women, and older men, but older unattached women are rare. I've thought of trying to chat up women up at JoAnn Fabric or Michaels -- they're there -- but that seems contrived and it's not really me. I like to go out for a drink but in my hipster neighborhood, again, no older women at the bars. I don't use apps or dating sites as they seem skewed to younger people.
If you have any thoughts on how I might increase my circle of older women acquaintances I'd appreciate it.

Try Politics and Prose rather than Joanne Fabrics if you really want to pick up a woman in a store. Or join a book group or yoga class. Many Meetup groups have mostly women as well.
I would welcome a 60-year-old single man at any of these.
Guy, 55, at Politics a lot. No meet cutes have arisen.
You're not the guy who followed me out of P&P in the late afternoon after a book talk on civil liberties and asked me to recommend places to go dancing, are you? If so, can I respectfully suggest your pickup line and approach really aren't appropriate to the stalking ground you've chosen?!

My friend's father (recently divorced) did this a few years ago. He had women all over him (err.. figuratively). He was a decent guy in his early 60's. Not many men are into dancing, and he could dance well. He actually brought a few extra shirts as he'd be dancing so much his shirt would be soaked in sweat after an hour.
