My impression is that there is no shortage of divorced middle-aged men at the dog park. I'm not aware of single older women though; it's all wives there that I discuss my kid with.

My brother used to come over and borrow my dog and go sit out on the quad at AU. He was a 22 y.o. tech nerd but the dog was a total chick magnet.

Many years later, as an older single mom, men used to occassionally stop me while I was out running errands with my dog and ask me about my dog and close by telling me about their local dog park and encouraging me to bring my dog. Much less skeeY than asking for a phone #.


Puppies work even better. Someone should start a business where they rent puppies...

Gym is also a good place to meet people. Classes are easier. You can start a conversation at the beginning or end without seeming creepy.

Number one place to meet people though is dog park. Lived in DC 20 years. Met the most people at dog park and through kids’ schools.

Politics and prose is a great place to meet people. Lots of single professionals work there during the day in the cafe. Readings are good too. Classes trend a little old though.

You're not the guy who followed me out of P&P in the late afternoon after a book talk on civil liberties and asked me to recommend places to go dancing, are you? If so, can I respectfully suggest your pickup line and approach really aren't appropriate to the stalking ground you've chosen?!


Nope. That guy was following the strange advice to cruise for chicks at the bookstore however.

My friend's father (recently divorced) did this a few years ago. He had women all over him (err.. figuratively). He was a decent guy in his early 60's. Not many men are into dancing, and he could dance well. He actually brought a few extra shirts as he'd be dancing so much his shirt would be soaked in sweat after an hour.


Yay that he's drowning in poon; yuck that he's also soaking wet with sweat while doing so ...
