We watched the original about a million times freshman year of college.
I will not tarnish those memories with some awful remake.

The original was on TV a few months ago and I even sat through commercials to watch it (despite having seen it many times over the years). Yes, I agree with PP - sheer perfection. The chemistry between Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze was amazing. Such a sensual, sexy movie.

I understand the shades of gray/grey confusion. Linda Gray was on Dallas. Erin Grey was on Buck Rogers.

I do think Jennifer Grey had some prior dancing experience. I thought she was perfect for the role, and I miss her original nose too. My point was that it's tricky finding actors that dance or dancers who can act. It's also hard for many trained dancers to over ride their years of training to look less good than they are if they are playing someone who is learning to dance.

Jennifer Grey was very giggly, and I think it annoyed Patrick Swayze a bit, which affected their on screen chemistry:


I didn't see the remake and don't plan on it. It's not the actress' fault she couldn't improve on it. It wasn't in need of a re-make.

It's like people who lack reading comprehension skills: they can read the words, but they can't process the message.

Patrick Swayze sang "She's like the wind" - one of the songs in the movie. He was quite talented.

The original Dirty Dancing might seem like a piece of fluff, but there was some real talent there.

Jennifer Grey was nominated for a Golden Globe in the original. She later went on to win Dancing with the Stars, so yeah, she can dance.

To remake it with bad actors who can't dance is like doing a bad nose job on someone famous thereby rendering them unrecognizable to fans.

Honestly, the back stories of Patrick Swayze and Linda Grey weren't even of interest to me until relatively recently.

That movie was so good that I don't remember even caring if she (the actress) "really" was like Baby - an average girl being taught how to dance by a talented dance instructor.

I sort of assume that the actors in the movie are playing character roles.

Linda Grey may not have been a professional dancer but she was a naturally talented dancer with more experience than the average person.

She did not go into that role as a complete novice. She had had prior dance training and I'll bet that she was a stand out in her dance classes....even if she wasn't a professional dancer.
