It's inside the beltway and has some great housing stock, including the MCM heaven that is Lake Barcroft. It seems like it has to be an investor's dream. Why is it not the next South Arlington?
We just sold our starter house here, and are looking for something bigger in the "better" FCPS school districts (Burke, West Springfield, etc) but I kinda love it here and would really prefer to spend our $740 on this beauty:

rather than some boring Mcmansion that's going to add 30+ minutes to my SO's commute.
But it's hard to get past a GS score of 2, even if you don't buy into the reductive self fulfilling prophecy of Great Schools.
Can someone give me hope? Any reason to think Annandale schools will are going to get better?
South Arlington is much more convenient to DC, by car, by transit, even by bike. Annandale is more convenient to Tysons, but there are are better choices for convenience to Tysons. And S Arlington is more walkable.
That is what holds Annandale back, but the locals will always focus on immigration instead - that obsession does not help either.
Annandale, Falls Church and Stuart all have higher SAT scores and better traditions than Wakefield. South Arlington is full of old apartment buildings, crappy duplexes and small houses. You'd really have to level entire blocks and build new to make it attractive.

Anonymous wrote:My husband and I bought a starter home very close to Lake Barcroft more than 20 years ago, ParkLawn/Ellen Glasgow/Jeb Stuart pyramid. It has appreciated very little over those two decades. We moved to a larger house after having kids in a better school district, and rent it out. It was not a good investment.

DACA is for people who came here when they were young, grew up here and went to our schools. There are a bunch of racist idiots on this thread.

Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Influx of Central and South American unaccompanied minors with zero English, thousands of whom were placed into FFX schools and paid for by you and I. Our school ratings are in the toilet because of it. 70% of our school is reduced free lunch. And even though we are close in our housing values suffer because the schools are over-crowded and very very bad.
NP here. Thanks, I didn't know about that. Do these unaccompanied minors live with relatives then? How devastating to send your kids off, away from you (sorry I'm emotional on Mother's Day) and not get to be there for them because you know they will have a better life. And I'm glad those kids get to eat lunch every day. I agree it doesn't sound ideal for this location and I'm sorry for your situation. I wish there were a win-win solution to this.

I think a lot of UMC families in that area send their kids to private, just like the UMC families in the Mount Vernon area (another place with gorgeous homes). The schools get better when more economically successful families send their kids to public. Honestly my opinion is just speculation. If I could predict the future ...... Also redistricting or special programs like magnets could make Stuart better.
I hear you re long commutes, Good luck on finding the right house!
There have been discussions over in the VA schools board about the future of FCPS. You might want to ask this question about Stuart there.
FFX is throwing a lot of resources at Stuart. It might not be 10 years, maybe 15 or 20... There's potential there.
Really? Like what?
