I used to think that fake nails were extremely tacky, until I saw how natural they can look. The guy I was dating at the time said that he loved women with pretty manicures and pedicures, so I started getting mine done. And since then I've gotten so many compliments on them! I never realized that people pay attention to those little details, but they do.
It's a small change that makes me look more feminine. Longer, bright nails are not to my taste but I understand that they're fashionable. They're part of a high maintenance, Kardashian-esque look that's popular with younger woman.
Those look weird and phony to me, not natural at all.

I think that bright colors look good on short nails. If they were super long and red, then it would be overkill. At your length they look feminine.

I have acrylic/gel nails. Before I started getting them, my nails were bitten and picked at. My nails look 110% better now. They look polished and professional. They are a neutral very sheer blush polish and short and look very natural, but they don't look bitten or picked or raggedy anymore. Thank god for acrylics.

One thing that confuses me about these nails is that the women I see with them are also the women I know who are always complaining about how tight money is (and these are women with legit money problems). These same women also tend to get highlights and other beauty treatments that I'm pretty sure are fairly costly. I think I spend a decent amount on facials/manicures/etc, but nothing I do comes close to the expense of maintaining nails like these etc.
I know that my experience are just anecdote, but I find it so strange. I obviously also have luxuries I spend on, so maybe I'm just not seeing the big picture. But I find it so odd to hear women complaining that they are struggling to pay rent and then talking about their nail and hair appointments.
Trust me, I wonder this too.
I even had one associate ask me for some money and I told her "your nails, dye job and designer purse is your money. I'm not giving you any".

That is too long for my taste. 3-4 mm is how much I'd allow it to grow. Beyond that it honestly looks witchy. This is one trend I just don't get the appeal of
Agree. Those are way too long and "witchy" is a good word for it. Don't like long nails, fake or otherwise.
