Bet that girl learned her lesson if not maybe your ds needs to work on his right hook . My dad taught me to always throw the first punch and to punch with everything I got.

How can OP's kid go tell the teacher when the girl has him by the collar and is twisting it so much he's got burn marks?

OP, give him a pass--I mean, he's stuck in line (caged animal, fight or flight is happening) and being hurt.

Tell him next time, not to use excessive force--just shove her to get her hands off his collar.

It's ok, it's all work in progress, just talk to him how you understand that he was upset about collar grabbing, this girl is learning, too, and how it is better to say stop, or even stay away from the girl altogether.
Be on your kid's side! Nice mom of nice kids keep punishing them for hitting in self defense, and bullies just get bolder!

Gender and size don't matter. My daughter has been trained to fight, she's a small girl and she fights (and wins) against boys three times her size/weight.

The point is the OPs son didn't know how to resolve the situation verbally or by walking away so he hit. OP, do you practice conflict resolution with your child?
