We young families are priced out of Janney. There's nothing we can do, even on 350k HHI to get into a home we can afford there with childcare/camp/nanny costs.


BS. Friends bought a 3-bed, 900K home IB for Janney just last year after selling their Cap Hill house for the same amount. They earn around 225K jointly. They don't pay camp costs - they use free DCPS summer school and parks and recs programs.

My understanding is that this is the first year Hearst waitlisted anyone IB for PK4. Also a handful of siblings enrolled waitlisted as well. The school is more and more in demand. With a PK4er this year, I see why - it's a little gem.

I'm not, I'm saying there aren't bubbles classes coming because at some point who can afford to have kids and buy in that zone?

Exactly. This was the attempt by one individual, clearly made out of frustration, who isn't even a Janney parent yet. Sad to see some people on this forum trying to twist this into a "movement" that somehow reflects negatively on all Janney parents, current or future, as a whole.

You can easily afford a year of child care on $350,000. Or move to a lovely part of Arlington or Montgomery County.

Shepherd also has a couple of IB waitlisted for PK4 this year (along w/14 PK3 IB families)--it used to be a fairly reasonable bet for OOB families up until very recently. Seems most Wilson feeders are moving in this direction, along with other schools.
