Question. I am 6' 7" tall. If I rounded down 2 or 3 inches so as not to scare someone off would that be equally egregious?

DH here: it's a tricky issue. In an online dating scenario, people get quickly screened out based on very crude cuts at data (e.g., no men below 5'10 or 6'; no overweight women), so there is pressure to spin a bit to try to at least get in front of someone to get a real shot. Having said that, 4" falls outside acceptable spin, as does the morbidly obese woman who cops to "a few extra pounds" and does the extreme angle selfie thing to hide it in her pic.

I think its a little unfair to call this "deception" in a judgmental way as some sort of character flaw; ample justification to next the guy though.

Stop judging a man on his height would be a good start. It's one thing to have a preference and some things should be absolutes but I feel that within the framework that you mention this shouldn't be one of them.

FWIW I am above the average height but my father was shorter than my mother and it never bothered them.

NOT the same. Women and men judge by weight/body size. When I put this "within the framework that you mention" I qualified the height thing.

I dated a guy who was 5'9. Like, he was ACTUALLY 5'9.

He would laugh and tell me that every other guy he met who claimed to be 5'9 was actually 5'6-5'7.

Anecdotally, I don't believe you. My mom was 5'2". Father stood 6'1". I fall right down the middle between them in height. I am 5'81/2".
