Over $300,000. Had a lot of failure, with multiple surrogates. Finally had our LO after we insisted on "unnecessary" PGS.

$15K for 3 kids (plus about $2k for embryo storage for 2 yrs)
3 cycles with 50% insurance coverage and med coverage (resulting in twins, negative FET cycle, singleton).

I know in the world of IVF we were incredibly lucky but I was young (early 30's) did really need IVF ---I've never conceived naturally (no birth control in previous 5 years of marriage or subsequent 10 (I'm now 43)).

I know i my heart I would have spent whatever it took..be it $100K, $150K. I hope this isn't obnoxious to say given that we had success. But I definitely understand those who spent 6 figures+. I would be right there as well.

We have the money but the odds are so terrible and I've always been too much a realist to be a good gambler. But I should admit that having a baby has never been a consuming need for me. I'm confident that I would really love my kid and being a parent if it happens, but that I'd also be really happy without having kids too. DH on the other hand really wants kids which is why we are trying ivf. I'm afraid of the potential issues with adoption tho I'm also not totally closed off to it - we may try that next if/when this cycle fails. I suppose being a parent requires a good degree of courage and ability to let go control anyway - I don't yet know if my fear of potential adoption issues are debilitating to that effort but that's something I'll have to consider more deeply if/when we get to that stage.

Is donor egg an option if you can afford it? We are looking into it as we feel it might offer a surer path than adoption.

I understand what you mean. One of the posters here said it best.. that one always think about stopping once we have tried 2 times, 3 times , etc but somehow we keep doing. For me, $$ is a problem. I don't want to get in debt because of this.

I'm starting to look at this because there is no way we could afford more than about $15k on this. Would love to hear from folks who have gone abroad for IVF.

So amazed that so many posters are willing to spend so much of money... did anyone get in debt because of this?

For first child (now 14 months) we paid very little because I had insurance. Two fresh cycles, one fresh transfer (failed), one frozen transfer. Now 6 embryos on ice. That whole thing with co-pays, storage fees, thawing fee (not covered by insurance) was probably around 3K. Again, incredibly lucky to have insurance.

Have now moved states and jobs and no longer have any coverage. Will be doing local monitoring and FET(s) for #2 (let's hope). No idea how much it will cost but I could see it adding up pretty quickly. Pretty sure every FET out of pocket will be roughly $5,000 with the meds, travel, etc. Will be using our savings.

Lucky to have insurance with a $30k lifetime cap, so all I paid was co-pays for every visit (prob $600 total?) plus embryo storage fees ($3000 so far).

Did 2 failed IUIs, then 1 IVF, which was successful.

Not sure what's left of the $30k lifetime cap. Considering a FET for #2.

This is such a stupid question but how do people get twins from IVF? I would love twins

They put back two or more embryos. Did you see this in recent topics or are you new to this? Actual question, no snark intended. You would perhaps love twins, but you would not love doing IVF to get them.

I have twins - from IVF - and it's an incredible blessing. But, in recent years, there is so much research about the risks to health for having twins, that most doctors are discouraging transferring two embryos (and two has become the limit for most). [Half of twins are born premature, added respiratory and other developmental risks, etc...] You can also have twins if one embryo splits (identical twins) and if you do clomid or clomid + IUI, you are producing more eggs & increased risk for twins/multiples.

P.S. spent $125K - twins through gestational carrier. (2 IVFs + the related legal, medical, surrogacy costs (and had to screen two GCs, first didn't work out)... (no DE)).

I hope you have at least one take home baby.
