Respect is a two way street. And the only way to houseguest is to meet in the middle or defer to the owners of the house.

TBH, I'm surprised how many people consider an unbuckled passenger to be a serious safety issue to others in the car. I asked my own husband, who is not really a stickler for safety at all, and he also agreed. He said he wouldn't say anything if it was just him in the car but wouldn't let someone go without a seat belt if I was also a passenger.
