That's because you are looking at the stuff on Georgetown Pike. No one builds a nice house on a main road.

I've seen the type of design in Annandale. It appeals to foreigners who wants to load a bunch of family members into one house. Makes it easy to divide the space equally. It's purposeful.

It is amazing how some of these houses, especially the McCraftsmans, look normal from the front, but they are one gigantic flat aluminum siding fortress with a few windows on the side. So tacky!

That's not supersized. They get a pass, they didn't spend huge amounts of money to make it ugly. They don't have the money to make it pretty.


That's the thing with these giant fugly houses. Clearly the homeowners could have hired a good architect if they wanted. But like OP says, money can't buy you taste.
